Temperance House takes its name from the Temperance Hotel which was located in the building last century. The hotel was later converted into a family home with a Bakery on the ground floor. In 2011 we completed a full refurbishment and modernisation of the property which is now divided into two high standard self-catering properties providing luxury accommodation in the centre of the village, just opposite the Port Charlotte Hotel.

The main apartment is on the first and second floors. The entrance hall has ample hanging space for outdoor clothing. A staircase leads to the first floor, opening into a spacious hallway. The kitchen/diner extends across the whole of the front of the building. It has a fitted kitchen with 2-oven electric Aga, a separate 2 ring hob, and combination microwave/oven for cooking, fridge freezer and dishwasher. There is a table seating 6 – 8 comfortably, plus a corner seating area with wall mounted 37” HD TV and iPod dock. This room enjoys stunning uninterrupted views over Port Charlotte beach to the lighthouse and then across Lochindaal and on to the Paps of Jura in the distance. There is a separate utility cupboard in the hallway housing a washing machine and dryer. To the rear of the first floor we have a sitting room with wood burning stove, another 37” HD TV, DVD player and sofas. There are French windows giving access to a patio area and the sloping rear garden. The first floor also has 2 shower /cloakrooms.

A wooden staircase leads to the second floor, and another spacious light-filled hallway. There are 2 bedrooms to the front; one double and one twin. At the rear of the building is a 3rd bedroom with double bed and French windows onto a small balcony overlooking the garden. All of the bedrooms have hanging space, drawer space plus under-eaves space which is useful for storing luggage. Additionally, there is a family bathroom with an over-bath shower on this floor. The house comes with central heating, FreeSat, and wireless broadband. The tarrif includes bedding, towels and electricity. Temperance House is a no-smoking property and unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets. Given the staircases it may be unsuitable for the less mobile and for young children.

The Studio apartment is suitable for one or two people and is on the ground floor with direct street access. The front door leads to an open plan area running across the front of the building with 3 sash windows overlooking Loch Indaal. There are 2 sofas, an HD TV with FreeSat, a DVD player, iPod dock and an open fireplace. The sleeping area has a double bed and ample storage space.

To the rear there is a single step up to a dining kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, washer and dryer. From here a door leads to a small private patio area to the rear. There is a shower room with a walk-in shower. The studio has underfloor heating throughout, with wooden flooring in the living and sleeping areas and tiles in the shower room and kitchen.

Parking is available at the front of the property. From April to October, both apartments are available for weekly rental, Sunday to Sunday. Shorter lets may be available in the low season – please contact us for details
